Clarification

Published October 31, 2023

Apropos a news item published in Dawn, Oct 15, 2023 titled: “Ogra halts supply of gas to unregistered company”, Spud Energy Pvt Limited (SEPL) has clarified that the Ogra letter referred to in the news article did not contain an order to halt gas production from Sara Suri gas fields.

The spokesperson said that as the operator of Sara Suri gas fields, SEPL has obtained all requisite approvals from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) for sale of gas to a third-party i.e. Konnect Gas (Pvt) Limited (KGL).

KGL has to secure a licence from Ogra, which is not an obligation of SEPL, therefore, the company can’t be held responsible for any non-compliance on part of the buyer i.e. the KGL. If Ogra intends to ensure compliance with licensing requirements, it should write to KGL, not SEPL, a statement said.

The news report incorrectly ascribed illegal sale of gas to SEPL, the statement said.
