LAKKI MARWAT: The police claimed to have repulsed terrorist attacks on two police stations and district jail in Lakki Marwat city on Tuesday night.

An official said a police station, a police post and the district jail building came under simultaneous attacks. He said the assailants used light and heavy weapons in a bid to breach police installations and the prison. “Policemen deployed there were fully alert as they had noticed the movement of terrorists with the help of thermal security cameras,” he claimed.

The official said the law enforcers retaliated to the attack with light and heavy weapons, forcing the assailants to flee.

“The cops exhibited unprecedented gallantry and repulsed the attack before reinforcements could reach them,” he maintained, saying no casualties took place in the gunfight between terrorists and the police.

Local residents said they heard explosions followed by gunfire at midnight. “I woke up with an explosion and then spent the night without sleep,” said a citizen.

He said his family members, including children, also could not sleep due to heavy exchange of fire.

Another citizen said the gunfight between terrorists and law enforcers panicked the residents settled in the proximity of the police station, the city police post and the jail.

After the attack police beefed up the security and enhanced patrolling in the area.

A search operation was also launched to hunt down terrorists and their facilitators.

Meanwhile, district police officer Tariq Habib visited the police station, the city police post and the jail, met policemen there and appreciated them for repulsing terrorists’ attacks.
