LAKKI MARWAT: The police repulsed an attack by terrorists on the Lakki Marwat city police station here on Friday night.

An official said on Saturday that a group of terrorists attacked the city police station with sophisticated weapons. He, however, said the assailants could not breach the police station as the policemen deployed there were fully alert and responded effectively.

The official said the police station building was located at a stone’s throw from the River Gambila and the terrorists might have come from the riverside to attack it. “After police repulsed the attack, the terrorists escaped the scene,” he added

The exchange of fire between the police and terrorists at midnight also panicked the local residents.

A resident, who was sleeping in the courtyard of his house, said he woke up to the sound of gunfire at midnight.

It was the second attack on the city police station in the last over eight months.

Several police stations have come under attack in the district during the last several months.

CASE REGISTERED: The police have registered a case against a Wapda employee for his negligence, which caused the death of four workers due to electrocution in Shahbazkhel area of Lakki Marwat on Friday.

Four people, including Waliullah, Mir Ahmad, Arifullah and Hazrat Ali, were killed when they touched the live cable of a high transmission line while laying out a new power cable.

A complainant, Abdul Sattar Khan, the brother of one of the deceased, Waliullah, told the Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police that his brother and other workers had been hired by superintendent Rizwanullah on daily wages.

“On the day of occurrence, someone told me on phone that the bodies of my brother and three other workers were lying at a hospital in Tetterkhel town,” he maintained.

He said he reached the health facility and found the bodies lying in the emergency room. “After gathering information I learnt that the incident had occurred due to the negligence of Rizwaullah,” he claimed.

The police said they had booked Wapda superintendent Rizwanullah under section 322 (punishment for Qatl-bis-sabab) of Pakistan Penal Code and began investigation.
