SHANGLA: Alpuri tehsil council chairman Waqar Ahmad Khan has been released from the jail after he was granted post-arrest bail by the Peshawar High Court, Mingora Bench, the other day.

The Alpuri tehsil chairman was arrested on Sept 13 from his residence in Shahpur under 3 MPO and was sent to a prison in Timergara, Lower Dir.

Jawad Ali Noor, president of hangla district bar association, and a member of the Insaf Lawyers Forum, told Dawn that Waqar Ahmad was released from the jail on Friday. He said he was received at Shangla top by party workers and supporters.

Mr Noor said Insaf Lawyers’ Forum had pursued the tehsil chairman’s case. He said Mr Ahmad was granted post-arrest bail by the PHC Mingora Bench.

Earlier, Puran tehsil chairman Abdul Maula was arrested in the May 9 riots case on August 5 when the PTI chairman Imran Khan was sentenced to three years imprisonment in the Toshakhana case.

Over 50 PTI workers were charged with the May 9 vandalism and taking out rallies. Some of them were arrested, while others had secured pre-arrest bail from courts.
