Mepco team held hostage

BAHAWALPUR: A Mepco raiding team, led by the Kot Addu division EXEN, was allegedly attacked outside Hinjra House and held hostage by a defaulter, Malik Shehzad, a relative of a former MNA and MPA, and his over 70 supporters in the limits of Daira Dean Panah police station on Wednesday.

According to a press release, the Mepco team, led by EXEN Raja Arif, conducted a raid to sever the connection of Shehzad, a defaulter of Rs111,000, and found power theft with direct supply. As many as 70 people, led by Shehzad, surrounded the team and allegedly abused the officials. Shehzad with his vehicle hit the official van of the EXEN.

The supporters of Shehzad, a relative of ex-MNA Sultan Hinjra and ex-MPA Qasim Hinjra, harassed the team. The officials sought police help and Daira Deen Panah SHO sent a team which helped Mepco staff sever the illegal connection of Shehzad.

The Mepco officials filed a complaint for registration of a case with police.
