SUKKUR / KARACHI: The gas supply to Karachi and many other cities was suspended following an explosion in the main gas pipeline near Kandhkot, officials said on Friday.

They said that the explosion took place in the gas pipeline, which originates in Sui and reaches Karachi, near the Sui Laro area near Tangwani town along the Kandhkot-Thull Road within the remit of the Dera Sarki police station.

A large number of people came out of their houses after hearing the deafening sound of the blast. The explosion left a big crater and damaged the pipeline completely due to which gas supply was suspended.

Local people said that a heavy contingent of police and security personnel reached the scene. However, it was unclear whether it was an act of sabotage or something else.

According to a PPI report, a preliminary investigation showed that the explosion took place due to heavy pressure of the gas in the pipeline.
