WORKING COUNTERS

WORKING COUNTERS: The Awami Markaz branch of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is a busy place visited by thousands of people every day. And, yet, there is only one counter that issues tokens and entertains public enquiries. The queues are endless. The government and Nadra management should facilitate the process by establishing more working counters.

GAS CRISIS: Karachi has been facing a steady decline in gas availability, leading to frequent and prolonged outages. This crisis has forced citizens to rely on costly alternative fuels, exacerbating their financial burdens. The industrial sector, which is vital for economic growth and employment, has also been severely affected.

Lack of gas supply has resulted in production delays, layoffs and financial losses. This has jeopardised the livelihoods of countless workers and their families. The authorities must investigate the root causes, expand infrastructure, and ensure adequate gas supply. Promoting renewable energy sources and energy-efficient practices can also alleviate the crisis.

FOOD WASTAGE: A significant proportion of food is lost or wasted every year in Pakistan due to various factors, such as poor storage and transportation infrastructure, lack of awareness about food wastage, and cultural practices that one can observe at any social gathering, especially weddings. Food wastage has serious economic, social and environmental consequences. To address the issue, it is important to raise awareness about food wastage and promote sustainable food practices, such as reducing food wastage at home, donating excess food to those in need, and supporting local food systems. The government should develop and implement programmes that address the root causes of food wastage, and promote sustainable food systems.
