KARACHI: The Commission for the Protection of Journalists and other Media Practitioners, Sindh, on Monday sought a report from the provincial police chief on the murder of senior journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar in Sukkur.

An urgent meeting of the commission, presided over by its chairman retired Justice Rasheed A. Razvi, was held on a request of the Karachi Union of Journalist to discuss the one-point agenda. The commission expressed its serious concern over the incident and asked the Sindh IGP to personally look into it.

“It’s not the first time that a journalist has been killed in Sindh; such frequent incidents reflect failure of the provincial administration and the law-enforcement agencies,” a statement issued after the meeting quoted KUJ president Fahim Siddiqi, a member of the commission, as saying.

Tauseef Ahmed Khan, another member of the commission, said the upcoming caretaker set-up should take up the murder case of the senior journalist as its first task after taking the charge.
