Rundown Drainage channel in Daska

Published February 2, 2002

SIALKOT, Feb 1: The main sewerage drainage channel, constructed a few months ago with an expenditure of millions of rupees on the outskirts of Daska tehsil, is in a dilapidated condition.

The Daska Municipal Adminis-tration spent huge amount on the construction in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

Residents of the locality claim the channel has developed cracks and is broken from some spots due to the use of sub-standard material. They say the sewerage water pouring in the fields from every corner destroys the crops.

On the complaints of farmers, the authorities concerned got the areas covered with plastics to stop the flow of water. An official probe was ordered by the higher-ups but it was stopped due to unknown reasons.

The farmers have urged the authorities to take stock of the situation and save their cultivated potato crops spreading over 100 acres from damage.
