ISLAMABAD: The additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday granted interim bail to the wife of a civil judge nominated in the housemaid torture case against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

The accused appeared in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr Abida Sajjad to seek bail, which was granted and the police were asked not to arrest her.

Earlier, the accused filed a petition seeking bail, and said the girl, Rizwana, was working as a maid in her house with the consent of her parents.

It further said the content of the FIR was not true and that Rizwana was never tortured.

The accused claimed that the girl was over 17 years old and that she would prove her stance during investigations. She further claimed that she had always been polite to her and treated her just like her three children, who were aged between nine and 12.

The accused said since the girl started working in their house, there had been no complaint before the alleged incident, adding that facts were being twisted.

She went on to say that she was a victim of negative campaign that was being waged against her husband, who was a civil judge, and was willing to join the investigation.

During the hearing, the court sought her CNIC for identification which was later produced.

The court then granted her interim bail.

The police said the court had asked her to join the investigation and appear before the police, adding that relevant sections of law would be added, keeping in view that the crime was a torture case.
