LAKKI MARWAT: A team of Rescue 1122 divers rescued three minor boys and 147 goats from Tochi River in Syedabad area of North Waziristan tribal district on Monday.

“The divers were sent to the river when the control room received information about trapping of animals and boys in deep waters,” said a rescue official.

He said the rescue workers retrieved the trapped goats from the river during a two-hour-long operation. He said the goats were crossing the river after grazing in the area.

In a separate action, the staffers of the rescue service saved three minor boys and handed them over to their relatives.

Outlaws arrested: The police arrested three proclaimed offenders and scores of suspects in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts on Monday.

Officials said the arrests were made during raids carried out in parts of both the districts under the Muharram security plan.

They said a proclaimed offender was captured in Dadiwala area and a repeater gun and cartridges were recovered from him. The arrested man was wanted by the police in a murder committed in 2017, they said, adding that the police also held nine suspects and recovered three shotguns, a pistol and ammunition from them.

In Bannu, the police seized a huge cache of weapons from anti-social elements and registered cases against them under relevant sections of law.

Officials said the seizure items included 11 Kalashnikovs, a kalakov, nine shotguns, 63 pistols, 1,293 bullets, 1.3 kilogrammes hashish and 19 bottles of liquor.

They said two proclaimed offenders and dozens of suspects were also arrested during the daylong operation.

The officials said that the successful actions against anti-social elements and miscreants would help control law and order and maintain peace and tranquility during Muharram.

The officials said that Lakki Marwat district police officer Mohammad Ashfaq Khan and Bannu DPO Iftekhar Shah announced commendation certificates and cash prizes for the policemen on the directives of regional police officer Qasim Ali Khan.
