FINANCIAL MODEL: Fair and equitable distribution of funds is essential for the growth and development of cricket globally, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) seems to have different ideas in this regard. England, Australia and India have been favoured in the past, and the new finance model is moving in the direction. The less developed cricketing nations are likely to suffer as they rely heavily on ICC funds. The finance model is likely to establish a two-tier system in international cricket, which may affect the game’s spread globally. The ICC should create a fair and equitable method of allocating resources.

POLITICAL PROMISES: With elections in the air, people should get ready for all sorts of promises that will be made by politicians. From roads and bridges to jobs and social welfare, everything will be promised. People would do well to take such promises in their due context.

STORM WATER DRAINS: When it rains in Karachi, water settles on the roads and remains there for months, causing health and other issues. This is due to inefficient storm water management by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The standing water on the roads gets mixed with refuse lines, becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Besides infections, pedestrians are at risk of falling in open manholes. The KMC needs to take action to solve these problems.

MISSING BRIDGE: The Uchar Nullah bridge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which used to connect Dasu and Gilgit, was washed away by the floods last year. Unfortunately, months have passed without any concrete activity related to the reconstruction of the bridge. Without a bridge, the route is seriously risky. The relevant authorities should reconstruct the bridge at the earliest.
