ANIMAL WASTE

ANIMAL WASTE: Hyderabad appears to be a dumping ground for animal waste of sacrificial animals as the relevant civic agency has not stepped forward to do what it is supposed to do. There is stench in the air and eyesores all across the city. The threat to the health of the people is quite ominous. Despite complaints and requests, the municipal authorities continue to enjoy their slumber. What are they waiting for is something only they know.

DESCENT INTO DARKNESS: The Larkana district suffered a massive power breakdown just before Eidul Azha, and has since remained without electricity. The breakdown in these days of sweltering heat and soaring temperatures is tragic, but what is more tragic is the callousness on the part of the relevant authorities to set things right even after so many days. The power outage has led to a rise in the prices of ice slabs. The ice that was available for Rs20 is now being sold for Rs100; a five-fold increase.

The department concerned should restore the supply without any further delay.

EID WITHOUT ELECTRICITY: People plan many social gatherings and events during occasions like the recent Eidul Azha. All such plans came to nothing this year owing to abrupt and unannounced power loadshedding. Most areas in Karachi suffered power outages, making life miserable. K-Electric could have done better at least on Eid day.

KARAK’S MISERY: Loadshedding is part of life in Pakistan, with suffering and anguish being the outcome. In Karak, a small town, there was no electricity the whole day and night during the first couple of Eidul Azha days. The prolonged loadshedding forced the residents to take to the streets and hold protest demonstrations, which then turned into a riot of sorts. The misery continues with no one interested in taking care of the matter.
