GUJRAT: A protest rally was organised by scores of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) workers on Thursday to condemn the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The rally commenced from the Islamic Centre and proceeded along GT Road, culminating at GTS Chowk.
Participants carried copies of the Holy Quran, JI flags, banners, and placards displaying their demands. JI Punjab (North) emir Dr Tariq Saleem, led the protest.
At GTS Chowk, the participants chanted slogans against the desecration of the Holy Quran, causing a one-hour blockade of the intersection.
Dr Saleem said that the religious sentiments of 1.75 billion Muslims worldwide had been hurt in the name of freedom of speech. He urged the Muslim nations to collectively voice their outrage by expelling Swedish ambassadors from their respective countries, sending a strong message to prevent future desecrations.
