HARIPUR: Two members of a family were killed and another was injured in a gun attack in Ghazi tehsil on Monday night, police said.

They said that Dilawar Khan, his son Irfanullah and nephew Zahidullah, residents of Jaloo Maira village, were coming home on a motorcycle when unidentified armed men opened firing on them near Eisa village.

Dilawar Khan and his nephew Zahidullah were killed while Irfanullah was injured in the attack. The dead and injured were shifted to tehsil headquarter hospital ghazi for autopsy.

Police said that although none of the attackers was identified, preliminary investigation showed that the motive behind the attack was an old family feud.

BUDGET: The senate of University of Haripur (UoH) passed the annual surplus budget of Rs1,371.168 million for the fiscal year 2023-24 during its 10th meeting.

The meeting of the senate was held at Governor’s House Peshawar with the provincial minister for higher education, retired Justice Irshad Qaiser, in the chair.

The registrar of the university, Riaz Mohammad, told journalists here on Tuesday that Vice-chancellor Dr ShafiqurRehman presented the budget for approval. He said that the university generated 71 per cent funds from its own resources while only 29 per cent would be provided to it by the government and other sources.

He said that the vice-chancellor told the participants of the meeting that the management wanted to launch a future educational programme that would be based on skill development in line with the needs of market.

Riaz said that efforts would be made to reduce the expenses of the university to a reasonable level. He said that the vice-chancellor also shared future plans with the participants of the meeting. The meeting appreciated the fundraising efforts of the management of the university besides getting better ranking among other universities and the adopting market-oriented approach.

The director general of Environmental Protection Agency, Farzana Altaf Shah, the director of Higher Education Commission, Syed Naveed Shah, the secretary of higher education department, Aneela Durani, retired Justice Malik Manzoor Hussain, and the vice-chancellor of Women University Mardan, Dr Ghazal Yasmeen, attended the meeting.
