SAHIWAL: The provincial food department officials claimed to have foiled attempts to smuggle 383 metric ton wheat out of Sahiwal Division during the last seven days.

As per food department Deputy Director Imran Munir, till date four FIRs have been launched and five persons arrested under the Punjab Food Stuff Act 1958 for attempting to smuggle wheat out of the division.

He says around 42 check posts are operative at different exit points of the division to prevent wheat smuggling.

PROJECTS: Divisional Development Working Party has approved two mega projects for Okara district worth Rs341.2 million in the current financial year.

Development Director Qayyum Qudrat said funds amounting to Rs166.5 million and Rs174.7 million would be spent on the construction of a road across Lower Bari Doab Canal, from Akbar Chowk to Faisalabad Road and for laying tough tiles in different parts of Okara city, respectively.

Reports said both projects would be completed within six months with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding.

FLOUR BAGS: Around 3,259,000 10kg flour bags were distributed in Sahiwal Division under the Punjab chief minister’s relief package so far.

These flour bags were distributed at 27 centres through 548 counters.
