LARKANA, Jan 18: Activists of the Watan Dost Mazdoor Federation took out a procession here on Tuesday in protest against the Kalabagh dam and the army operation in Balochistan.

Led by Aziz Abbasi and Qadir Kurd, the procession started from the main office of the federation and terminated at the Jinnahbagh gate. The protesters also demonstrated outside the local press club.

They said they would resist construction of the Kalabagh dam because it would destroy Sindh economy. They called for shelving the project.

Condemning the Balochistan operation, they said it was aimed taking over natural resources of the province.

They also flayed the US missile attack on Bajaur agency.

LEPROSY CENTRE: Sindh minister Haji Altaf Unar has said that six vehicles will be added in the fleet of ambulances in the health department of the Larkana district.

He was speaking at inauguration ceremony of a leprosy center and dispensary here on Monday.

The two health facilities had been constructed at a cost of Rs3.55 million.

The minister said the government was determined to create awareness about the disease and provide basic facilities to people without any discrimination.

In-charge of the leprosy center, Dr Farooque Soomro said that medicines were being provided to 676 leprosy patients in the district.

He said leprosy cases were reducing in the district and its suburbs after setting up of the center in 1966.

In 2001, the leprosy center had extended medical facilities in health education, leishmaniasis (skin disease), Aids, sexually-transmitted diseases and safe blood transfusion.
