EDUCATIONAL APATHY: As a student at the University of Karachi, I have observed shortcomings in the teaching culture. Senior teachers holding positions like department head, dean of faculty, or director of admissions, rarely take classes. They feel rather proud about their ability to skip classes, and show their faces at best during the last month of the semester. They deliver assignments and quizzes, as well as photocopy notes from which the final exam would be taken. The Higher Education Commission and other authorities should address the issue.

EARTHQUAKE RUMOURS: As a nation, we believe blindly and share irresponsibly whatever is being posted on social media platforms. A recent example of the phenomenon was a fake news that an earthquake like the one that had rocked Turkiye earlier in the year will jolt major cities of Pakistan. Forecasting an earthquake is not even a science. But a lot of people reacted to the fake news, causing avoidable panic.

LACK OF LIBRARIES: It is ironic to note that there are only 300 functional libraries for 208 million people in Pakistan. In contrast, the United States has over 100,000 libraries for about 330 million population. Our society is not struggling without a reason against intolerance, extremism, and ignorance. Book reading inculcates moral values in people and refines their thoughts.
We surely need to have more libraries.

NOT THE RIGHT DEMAND: All that the opposition wants is to have the next elections. The kind of horrible financial situation the country is facing makes it impossible to afford a huge expenditure in conducting elections with every guarantee that whosoever loses will call them manipulated and take to the streets, especially the current opposition. What is the point?
