DERA MURAD JAMALI: An indoor residual spraying drive was launched on Friday in Sohbatpur district of Nasirabad to fight spread of malaria in the area.

After last year’s torrential rains and heavy flood, a sharp increase in malaria cases was recorded in Sohbatpur district.

The indoor residual spraying treats the inside walls of homes with long-lasting insecticides. It is an effective way to kill mosquitoes and disrupt the transmission of malaria.

Sohbatpur Deputy Commissioner Faiz Ali, District Health Officer Dr Shoukat Ali, WHO Representative of Vector Borne Diseases Dr Zeeshan attended the launching ceremony of the campaign.

DC Faiz said 3,300 houses would be sprayed against malaria at five hot spot areas in Sohbatpur.

Ten teams consisting of 80 workers would take part in the drive. The team members have been trained for the campaign by WHO doctors.
