TOBA TEK SINGH: The buffalo producing 30.55 litre milk has won the ‘crown of buffaloes’ contest held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, as a part of ongoing Spring Festival.
The winner, named Kajal, was owned by Imran Marral.
Two buffaloes, owned by Haji Ikram from Sidhupura, got the second and third positions with 30.06 litre and 28.31 litre milk respectively.
The milk competition was organised by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of the UAF in collaboration with the Buffalo Association.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan along with Cholistan Veterinary University of Animal Sciences VC Dr Muhammad Sajjad Khan, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Dean Dr Muhammad Qamar Bilal, Director Animal Sciences Dr Muhammad Riaz Virk, Dr Muhammad Younus, Chairman of Buffalo Association Atta Muhammad watched the contest.
Dr Iqrar said that per animal milk production in Pakistan was very low compared to the rest of the world. He said the milk requirements of the growing population could be met by promoting the best breeds of buffaloes. He said the university was committed to uplift the sector with trained manpower, research work and outreach.
Dr Qamar Bilal said that every year, the UAF organised milk competitions aimed at increasing productivity by promoting the atmosphere of competition among the farmers.
Moreover, the greyhound race was also organised as a part of the festival in which clubs across the country took part. Convener Dr Haroon Zaman said that the greyhound race was to promote rural culture.
ATTACK: Nine relatives of a visa fraud accused allegedly got him released from custody of a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team at Chak 481/GB of Samundri.
According to Mureedwala police, the FIR, registered on complaint of FIA Sub-Inspector Muhammad Sheraz, said the suspect, Tahir, was an accused and proclaimed offender in a case registered by the FIA against him in 2020 for extorting money from the people for issuance of visas.
It added that when the FIA team raided and arrested Sheraz, his two brothers, Ibrar and Salman, and seven others attacked the team members with weapons and wooden bars.
The attackers not only tortured the officials but also tore the uniform of a constable and took Tahir out of FIA custody.
