GUJRAT: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is going to organise a workers’ convention in Gujranwala on Friday (tomorrow) where party’s senior vice president Maryam Nawaz will address the participants.

The convention will be held at Ghulam Hussain Park along the main GT Road.

Party organisations of seven districts of Gujranwala and Gujrat divisions have been tasked to bring maximum number of workers from their respective districts to make the show a success.

The party lawmakers and former ticket holders from the region have been holding corner meetings in connection with preparations for the Gujranwala show.

Both the rival parties, the PTI and PML-N, have been treating the newly-created Gujrat division as a part of Gujranwala division as earlier the PTI had staged the court arrest drive of all seven districts of the region in Gujranwala and now the PML-N too planned its political show in the same city.

A former PML-N lawmaker said though his party had been holding such conventions across the province as a part of its campaign to mobilise workers at the gross root level, Gujranwala was considered as a stronghold of the party as it won all National and Punjab assembly seats in 2018.

MURDER: An aged lumberdar was gunned down by rivals in Jhandewal village of industrial areas phase 2 police precincts on Wednesday.

Reports said that Asghar was busy in feeding his cattle at his outhouse when Adnan Wilayat and his five accomplices opened fire at him which resulted in his instant death.

The assailants fled the scene whereas police shifted the body to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Police said a son of deceased had earlier been killed by the rivals belonging to the same village.
