KARACHI: New Comkar takes charge

KARACHI, Jan 13: Vice Admiral Sikandar Viqar Naqvi has taken over the charge of Commander Karachi from Vice Admiral Asad Qureshi who has been appointed Chairman of Port Qasim Authority (PQA).

As Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral Naqvi would be in charge of all Naval shore establishments and units at Karachi.

Vice Admiral Sikandar Viqar Naqvi was commissioned in the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in June 1970.

A submariner by profession, he has held various commands and staff appointments, including commands of submarines, destroyer, and commander destroyer squadron.

His staff appointments include Defence Attache of Pakistan Mission abroad, Director at Joint Services Headquarters, Chief Staff Officer to Commander Karachi and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects).

He has also been Chairman of Port Qasim Authority and was Commander Pakistan Fleet prior his appointment as COMKAR.

The change of command ceremony was held at Naval Unit PNS Bahadur where the outgoing Commander Karachi Vice Admiral Asad Qureshi presented the traditional scroll to the newly-appointed Commander Karachi as a mark of handing over the command.

Earlier, on his arrival at the venue, Vice Admiral S V Naqvi was presented guard of honour and was introduced to the principal staff officers and commanding officers of various PN units under his command.

In his address, the outgoing COMKAR thanked all the officers and men under command for their unflinching support to transform and improve multitude of training.

He said that nation is making sacrifices to equip the armed forces with latest weaponry and it is the duty of men in uniform to prove equal to the trust.—APP
