GUJRAT: A woman who had contracted love marriage, was shot dead by her ex-husband on Friday after the divorce suit was decided in her favour by a court at Phalia town of Mandi Bahauddin.

According to police, Nimra (25), a resident of Azizabad Colony, Gujrat, had contracted love marriage with one Awais Qamar a few years ago. The couple had a daughter.

However, the couple developed differences and Nimra filed a civil suit seeking divorce from her husband in a civil court at Phalia.

The court decided the case in favour of Nimra on Friday.

After hearing the verdict, Nimra left the court premises with her brother.

On their way back, the brother and sister stopped at a stall to buy snacks, when Nimra’s husband, who had been chasing them, allegedly shot her dead on the spot and fled the scene.

On being informed of the incident, the police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Phalia Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy. A team of forensic experts later collected the evidence from the crime scene.

Police have registered a case under sections 302, 148, 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the suspect Awais Qamar, his brother Nadeem and their mother Anwar Bibi and started investigation into the case.

BOOKED: Phalia police have booked at least 34 persons, including 31 nominated suspects, in a triple murder case pertaining to firing outside Phalia courts premises.

In the firing incident on Thursday last, three persons were killed and as many others were injured.

The suspects also include at least 10 overseas Pakistanis living in England, who were booked under section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), whereas sections 302, 324, 148 and 149 of the PPC are also included in the case on the report of complainant Arshad Hussain of Sandanwala.

Both the rival parties had enmity since long and a dozen people from both sides have so far been killed.
