TOBA TEK SINGH: Three minor girls drowned when their mother allegedly tried to die by suicide along with her daughters by jumping into the river Jhelum in Jhang district on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that Tahira Yasmin of Mouza Chatta jumped into the river Jhelum near Mariwala Pattan on Sargodha Road along with her daughters Sanam (10), Sadaf (7) and Mariyam (3).

Locals rescued the woman but they could not rescue the three minor girls. Search was ongoing till the filing of this report by different rescue teams. The woman was shifted to the Jhang DHQ Hospital.

Her husband Muhammad Ameer told the police that his wife quarrelled with him and other family members over a domestic dispute and attempted to commit suicide along with his daughters.

Meanwhile, a young man drowned in a canal near Pul Ghrat Adda in Mian Channu tehsil of Khanewal district on Saturday.

Rescuers said that Abdul Qadir (21) was taking a bath in the canal when he got trapped in a deep water area and drowned. His body was fished out by rescuers.
