COLLEGE TEACHER INTERNS: Due to shortage of lecturers in colleges, the Punjab Higher Education Department appointed College Teacher Interns (CTIs) in 2022 on a contractual basis for 4-5 months, and a total of two batches were hired. Disappointingly, the CTIs of the two batches have not received any salary to date. None of the concerned authorities approached were able to even clarify the reasons for the delay.

COUNTERFEIT MEDICINES: Finding counterfeit medicines in the market is no more a rare case. They are harmful to human health as these fake drugs only prolong the misery of the consumers. The authorities concerned should take steps to combat the sale of counterfeit medicines.
The public can also play a role in preventing the spread of counterfeit medicines by purchasing drugs from reputable sources, and by reporting sale of fake drugs to the authorities.

THE OTHER CLASS: This is with reference to the letter ‘Tinted glasses’ (Jan 29). We clearly have two classes in society. There are people who drive luxury cars with cent per cent tinted glasses with blanket immunity from any action. And there are those who drive small cars or motorcycles, and are subjected to financial harassment in the name of enforcing the writ of the law.

A BIT OF HISTORY: The infamous judgement justifying the arbitrary dismissal of the first constituent assembly of Pakistan in 1955 has survived all these years. Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan, the speaker of the assembly, had challenged the illegal act of the governor-general and had won the case in the Sindh High Court, but the Supreme Court had overturned the decision citing the doctrine of necessity. This black spot has stained our judicial history to this day.
