LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) decided as many as 156,350 cases out of a total of 335,965, including 148,769 newly instituted, during the year 2022.

The pendency of the cases in the LHC was 187,196 on Dec 31, 2021, while 148,769 new cases were filed during the whole year of 2022.

The judges at the Lahore principal seat decided 89,509 cases while 17,821 at Bahawalpur, 3,603 at Multan and 10,687 at Rawalpindi.

The statistics shared by the LHC shows that the total pendency of the cases was recorded 179,615 as on Dec 30, 2022.

The district judiciary in Punjab had started its 2022 with an old pendency of 1,307,438 cases while it received 2,713,500 new cases during the whole year. The judges of the district courts, including sessions and civil, decided as many as 2,757,603 cases leaving a pendency of 1,263,335 cases as on Dec 30.

The special courts and tribunals, including the accountability, the anti-terrorism and the anti-corruption courts, had a pendency of 79,306 cases at the start of the outgoing year while 6,7434 new cases were instituted by the last month of 2022.

These special courts and tribunals disposed of 77,689 cases during the whole year, while 71,870 are still pending.

The cases decided by the district judiciary include 6,883 of murder crime, 30,461 of other crime, 21,799 of narcotics, 81,327 civil and criminal appeals, 26,473 civil and criminal revisions, 518,743 civil suits, 281,339 family cases including guardian, 16,682 applications for succession, 5,614 rent matters and 588,673 magisterial trials.
