MUZAFFARGARH: Gunmen looted Rs20 million in gold and cash from the shop of a goldsmith in Sinawan town, Kot Addu district, on Sunday

morning and also left the owner of the shop and his father injured for resisting them.

The incident occurred in the main bazaar of Sanawan, in the shop of Shahid Zargar. Shahid alleged that three robbers stole Rs10 million in jewellery and Rs10 million in cash.

On being alerted, the police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the bazaar area. The traders protested against the Kot Addu district police, alleging the district administration failed to protect the people.

Sanawan Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Syed Riaz Bukhari negotiated with the protesters and convinced them to end the protest.

The traders called off the protest after a case was registered against unidentified gunmen. The police claimed that they were collecting clues from nearby CCTV cameras.

The injured shopkeepers were first admitted to the Kot Addu DHQ hospital for treatment, where doctors declared them serious. They were later referred to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

SDPO Bukhari claimed that his team will trace the robbery at the earliest as forensic evidence was being collected.

Traders claimed that it was the biggest robbery in the history of the Sanawan City area.

Sources said that the robbers came to the shop at a time when Shahid was putting the gold and cash in the bag.

Robbers also looted a grocery store owned by Maulvi Ghulam Siddiqu near the cinema in Kot Addu city and took away thousands of rupees and food items.

The Kot Addu district police registered a case against unidentified gunmen.
