SAHIWAL: The expat involved in the killing of a woman and her 13-year-old son allegedly committed `suicide by swallowing poison’ over his identification on Thursday.

Expatriate identified as Rashid Ali, a resident of Inyat Elahi Colony, died at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital where Ghala Mandi police shifted him after his health deteriorated during the murder interrogation.

District Police Officer Sadiq Baloch told Dawn that a team through GPS mobile location and interviews with neighbours and family members found a clue that led to the identification of [suspect] Rashid Ali.

He said Ghala Mandi police raided different places to arrest him. Ghala Mandi Station House Officer Mr. Imtiaz said Rashid was picked and brought to the police station where he confessed to his crime. He told interrogators that he had an affair with the woman and would visit her on each trip to Sahiwal from Oman. He said her son was in knowledge of their relationship.

Rashid told police he first strangled the boy on which his mother got infuriated who was also choked to death by her scarf.

Further investigation is under way.

TEACHER KILLS SELF: A teacher committed suicide by shooting himself dead with the gun of school’s security guard at village 8/11-L on Thursday.

It is said at the time of the incident, the guard went out for offering Zohr prayers and kept his gun in one of the cupboards in the security room.

An eyewitness said the teacher came, unlocked the cupboard, picked up the gun and shot himself in the head. He died on the spot.

Ghaziabad police rushed to the school and shifted the body to Chichawatni Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

Reports said Farukh Gill, a father of three, was a resident of Hasan Town, Chichawatni. He has been working as elementary school teacher at Government High School, 8/11-L. Gill’s colleagues told the police that he was suffering from some psychiatric issue and was on medicine.

District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Mr Saeed told Dawn that Mr Gill had been suffering from some mental problems for the last four years and was also under treatment.

Ghaziabad Station House Officer Umer Daraz said police are investigating the reason for the suicide. Farukh Gill’s wife is also a teacher at Government Girls High School, Chichawatni.
