QUETTA: The Saindak Metals Limited (SML), tasked with mining copper and gold from the region, would pay Balochistan a share of around Rs2.6 billion from the project’s profit next week in view of the financial crisis being faced by the province, official sources said on Sunday.

In a meeting held on Saturday, the finance committee of the SML board discussed the issue in detail and approved the payment of the province’s share. The board members approved the release of Rs2.597bn to the Balochistan government within a week, a senior official of the Balochistan government told Dawn.
