SWABI: The contractual employees of University of Swabi and Women University Swabi staged a demonstration at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk on Wednesday against delay in regularisation of their services.

The protesting employees reached the district headquarters from their respective universities in vehicles. They were chanting slogans against the administration of the two universities. They also held placards inscribed with demands of service regularisation.

The employees said despite their repeated requests, the vice-chancellors of the two varsities were not issuing orders of their regularisation. They pointed out that all the contractual employees had the required education and met other criteria for being regularised, but officials concerned were using delaying tactics, forcing them to come onto the roads.

They demanded that the two universities honour the unanimous resolution adopted by the provincial assembly for regularisation of all the contractual employees, saying the provincial government had earlier regularised the services of about 40,000 ad hoc teachers in the province. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
