SWAT: Four persons, including two policemen, a polio worker and a civilian, were injured on Wednesday night when unknown miscreants launched an unprovoked attack on police personnel stationed at a checkpost in Landakai area of Swat.

According to DPO Swat, the checkpost is strategically located at the foot of the mountainous region spanning district Malakand and Swat. “The checkpost in Swat came under attack from the mountainside. However, the police personnel deployed at the checkpots responded promptly and effectively, repelling the assault. The suspected militants subsequently fled the scene taking advantage of the dark and mountainous terrain,” he said.

Polio workers are stationed at different checkposts to vaccinate children of the travelling families.

The injured include constables Javid and Rahmat, polio worker Afaq, and one civilian. He said that all the injured were stable while a search operation for the miscreants was under way.

Meanwhile, Swat Olasi Pasoon (Swat Uprising Movement) and Swat Qaumi Jirga condemned the attack on the police checkpost and called an emergency meeting to devise a plan against the incident.
