BAHAWALNAGAR: The A-Division police arrested a Jattowala Government Boys Primary School teacher on Sunday for beating a class three student for not finishing his homework.

According to the initial information, Umair Aslam tortured Muhammad Waqas on Nov 5. He made the student lie upside down on a bench with his wrists and legs held by other students and later caned him repeatedly.

Despite the child’s parents’ requests, the teacher used to beat Waqas for missing homework.

On child’s father’s complaint, the police arrested Umain under section 328 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Education Chief Executive Officer Zahoor Chuhan told Dawn that the teacher had been suspended from job and that a departmental investigation had been launched against him.
