KARACHI: The Sind Chief Minister, Mr Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, said ... that the mill-owners have been permitted to issue termination notices to those workers who would not resume duty within 48 hours... . In a statement ... the Chief Minister appealed to those workers who have not resumed work to “stop destroying the nation’s economy”... . The statement said: “… We have stretched out resources to meet the labourers’ need. We have done more for the labourers in 10 months’ time than was done for them by all previous regimes combined. … [I]t was necessary for me ... to tell the labourers to stop making further demands on the nation. I had to tell them that if they did not work, they would not be paid. ... ”

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Islamabad,] The Government of Pakistan have decided to establish a Corporation named the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, to transact life insurance business with effect from the first of next month. The life insurance business, whose management was taken over by the Government on March 19 this year under the Life Insurance Nationalisation Order, 1972, shall stand vested in this Corporation with effect from the same date.
