TOBA TEK SINGH: A trader was allegedly shot dead by robbers in Faisalabad on Monday. According to Rescue 1122, Sajjad Abbas Sindhu of Chak 100-JB, Kurreewala, riding a bike was on his way after withdrawing a cash of Rs1 million from a bank branch located in Peoples Colony No 1. Near Firdous Colony graveyard, two robbers intercepted him at gunpoint and after he offered resistance they shot at and injured him seriously. He succumbed to his wounds on way to teh Allied Hospital.

City police spokesperson Naveed Ahmad claimed that the attackers killed him over some other issue as they did not take away cash, his mobile phone and motorcycle.

ENCOUNTER: Two suspected robbers belonging to Sahiwal were killed in an ‘encounter’ with city police here on Monday morning.

According to district police spokesperson, Peeran Ditta and Qasim Manzoor were on a two-day physical remand issued by a judicial magistrate and a police party was taking them to recover looted valuable on their indication. When the police van reached Waryamwala Link Road, four of their accomplices riding two motorcycles attacked the vehicle and opened fire. In retaliation, both suspects suffered injuries and succumbed to their wounds on way to DHQ hospital.

A police spokesman claimed that the suspects suffered injuries in firing by their accomplices. He said they had committed robberies at the houses of Dr Ghulam Mustafa of Sindhillianwali and Dr Maryam of Seowal, taking away cash and valuables worth more than Rs30 million. They were wanted by police in different districts.

PETROL PUMPS: Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh made a surprise visit to various petrol pumps on Sunday night and checked measurement scales in the presence of customers.

He made it clear to the pump owners and workers that the complaints from customers regarding less petrol could not be tolerated. He inspected cleanliness of washrooms at the petrol pumps. He also checked the quality and prices of items at tuck shops located on the premises of filling stations and asked them to refrain from overcharging.

PRISONER DIES: A prisoner died on Monday here in district jail.

According to jail officials, Umer Azeem of Gojra Chak 158 GB was detained in a murder case registered against him by Gojra Saddar police. He was rushed to DHQ hospital after heart attack where he expired.
