RAHIM YAR KHAN: The Khanpur assistant commissioner (AC) and Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) authorities are trading allegations after Mepco employees cut off the power supply to the AC’s residence in Model Town B for non-payment of Rs12,1621 dues.

In reaction, employees of the Khanpur Municipal Committee (MC) threw garbage at the main gates of the Mepco executive engineer (EXEN) office.

Mepco employees struck back with cutting the electricity meters of different MC offices as AC Almas Sabih Shah is the administrator of the MC also.

MC employees started protesting against Mepco and blocked the main chowk. They said Mepco employees had threatened that the electricity supply to all MC disposal pumps would be suspended, due to which, the sewerage of the city would not be disposed of.

The MC employees chanted slogans against the Khanpur EXEN and also suspended traffic on main Shahi Road. Mepco employees also protested against the AC and chanted slogans against him outside the EXEN office.

They said the AC was stealing electricity for his residence. They showed the unpaid bill of the AC house.

AC Saqib released a video message that his bill had been paid the same day by his staff when the power was cut off. He said he called the EXEN but he did not pick up his call.

He said the EXEN should reinstall the meter. He said Mepco was also defaulting on several MC dues. The EXEN was not available for comments.
