KARACHI: The federal cabinet has sought an advice from the Sindh government on the further role of the Centre in relief operations across the flood-hit areas in the province.

A delegation comprising key members of the federal cabinet met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, discussed the current situation in the flood-hit areas and sought the advice.

A brief statement said that the four-member team comprising ministers Naveed Qamar, Faisal Subzwari, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Tariq Bashir Cheema held the meeting with Mr Shah at the CM House. The two sides discussed the post-flood situation in the province and the relief efforts jointly carried out so far by the provincial and federal governments.

During the meeting, the statement said, the CM referred to the issues that solely could be resolved by the federal government. He sought uninterrupted power supply for the pumping stations to drain accumulated water from several flood-hit areas, the statement said, adding that power outages remained one of the key hurdles in the execution of relief operation.

The CM also asked for supply of anti-mosquito nets and tents in huge numbers as still a lot of flood-affected people were living under the open sky.

The federal government delegation assured the CM of meeting all demands of the province at a faster pace.

Meanwhile, sources said that a four-member delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) held a meeting with the Sindh CM and conveyed its concerns over non-implementation of “Charter of Rights”.
