Dir villagers want classes started in school

LOWER DIR: The elders of Doda Dushkhel village here have demanded construction of a link road, provision of electricity supply and starting of classes in a primary school.

Talking to reporters in Timergara, Asghar Khan, Rehanullah, Ahmad Ali and others said they had submitted an application to the Lower Dir deputy commissioner, seeking basic facilities in their village, and hoped the administration would take their problems seriously. They pointed out that the villagers had built a link road on their own, but the recent flash floods had washed it away. The elders said building of a primary school in the village had been built years ago, but classes in it could not be started till date.

The villagers said the local lawmakers paid no heed to their issues.

SUSPECT ARRESTED: A spokesman for Upper Dir police has said main suspect of the firing incident at a jirga was arrested during a raid in Barawal area on Tuesday.

Nine people were killed and five injured in the firing incident during the jirga held in Barawal area on Sept 20, 2021.

The arrested man, Zafar Khan, a resident of Gat Koto Shahikot, had a bounty of Rs5 million on his head, and according to the police, he had been involved in several other heinous crimes. The police spokesman said district police officer Tariq Suhail Marwat led the intelligence-based operation.
