SWIMMING IS MISSING

SWIMMING IS MISSING: This is with reference to a recent advertisement by the Higher Education Commission which surprisingly missed mentioning an important game, swimming, from the sports trials. Not including a well-known and globally famous sport is a great cause of concern, leaving one wondering where the swimmers would go. The HEC needs to revise its programme and include swimming in the trials.

PRIORITISED JUSTICE: The judiciary has been delivering well in its ‘prioritised’ areas which apparently does not include delivering justice to the oppressed and the downtrodden. Issuing verdicts at midnight is a worthy effort, but dispensation of justice in several other areas has been rather disappointing. A case in point is that of the Lahore motorway incident. The teeming masses in district and sessions courts also tell a tragic tale of legal delays. Justice delayed anywhere is justice denied everywhere.

WIMBLEDON TELECAST: Wimbledon is famous for hosting the world’s oldest tennis tournament. Being an avid tennis follower, I am grateful to Pakistan Television (PTV) for broadcasting Wimbledon Championship for the last many decades. Following this year’s PTV transmission, I was also impressed by the young duo of Asim Shafik and Sarah Mahboob Khan who together analysed the proceedings professionally and intelligently. All those behind the Wimbledon transmission on PTV deserve our appreciation.

WAKEUP TIME: The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) lags behind its counterpart in Punjab on many counts. It never makes timely announcements, and is unable to maintain and update its website on a regular basis which causes uncertainty and anxiety among the candidates checking for announcements for new jobs and other updates. It is time the SPSC maintained and updated its website regularly so that candidates’ precious time and efforts are not wasted anymore.
