UN employees leave Eritrea

ASMARA, Dec 16: The United Nations said on Friday it had completed the withdrawal of North American and European UN peacekeepers from Eritrea, meeting a deadline set by Asmara for their expulsions. The UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) said the 180 US, Canadian, European and Russian staff affected by the order, plus some additional personnel of other nationalities, were now all out of the country. “By now, they have all left by plane or by car,” UNMEE spokeswoman said.—AFP
