LAHORE: The police resolved six murder cases, including of a retired university teacher, and arrested extortionists who demanded Rs5 million ransom from a trader.

Lahore Investigation DIG Kamran Adil said the Nishtar Colony police resolved the murder case of retired university teacher Prof Dr Suleman Shaukat and arrested three suspects, identified as Zeeshan, Faraz Murtaza and Hassan Ghafoor.

He said the suspects used to trap and kidnap citizens to deprive them of their money and Prof Suleman was their third victim.

They called Dr Suleman for a meeting in Nawab Town to discuss a property deal. At the meeting point, the suspects snatched his money, credit card and other valuables and later hammered him to death in his car. Later, they drove his car to Kasur and threw the body in the Roahi Nullah.

In the blind murder case of young man Tariq Ali, the Nisthar Colony arrested suspected killer Shah Jahan, who confessed to killing Tariq over a minor dispute.

The Nishtar Colony police also arrested Shahzeb and Imran for demanding Rs5 million extortion from Sabzi Mandi trader Asif Ali.

The Raiwind investigation police also traced the murder case of a 16-year-old girl and arrested young suspect Awais. He wanted to marry the girl and on her refusal, he opened fire and killed her in a market and fled.

Also, the Mochi Gate investigation police arrested a proclaimed offender of ‘A’ category who was wanted in a triple murder case.

He said three people were killed in an armed clash between two parties and Tariq was one of the key suspects.

About the murder case of Tariq Ali which was lodged with the Hyer police station, he said, the police recovered the body from the BRB Canal.

The police arrested Mehak and her accomplice Qasim, who alleged Tariq had affairs with both Mehak and her mother at the same time.

The Misri Shah police also arrested Bilal, the suspect in the murder case of Awais, 19.
