POWER FAILURE: Frequent power failures have turend life into a misery in Karachi. The students are the worst affected as their study schedule is shattered. The supply of electricity is never stable, and fluctuations cause damage to electrical appliances. Besides disturbing the academic and social activities of the people, loadshedding has also hampered the industrial process and development. The situation deserves serious attention and urgent actions.

POLITICAL MATURITY: This is with reference to the editorial ‘Unacceptable language’ (June 8). We have already faced bloodshed and destruction at the hands of terrorist outfits of all shades and hues. The country is facing a rather chaotic situation. Our politicians should be mature enough to avoid adding misery to the already miserable life of the common man.

FRAGMENTED SOCIETY: The main opposition party has been continuously raising popular slogans since its ouster from power. It is blaming all national institutions, which can only be bad for the country. Ouster through no-confidence move was not a new thing. It has happened several times in the world. Politicians around the world gracefully accept defeat and continue to work for the betterment of their country. Why can’t our opposition do that?

UGLY STRIKES: It is disappointing to see how we take advantage of our so-called democracy and use it to do anything anywhere anytime we want. One such example is strikes that have become common in the country. Be it politicians, government employees or a neglected community, they all call for a strike to register their protests, causing inconvenience to the public, disrupting traffic flow, and leading to economic loses. Moreover, these protests are not always peaceful. Sometimes, they turn ugly. Those inciting violence and anarchy should be punished.
