SHANGLA: The Shangla police have arrested a teenager for assaulting a six-year-old boy in Bisham tehsil.

A police official told Dawn on Monday that the suspect was arrested following registration of an FIR by the victim’s grandfather, in which he claimed his grandson was allegedly assaulted by a 17-year-old boy. He said they found the child injured near their house in Seror area of Shang.

The police official said the victim was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham, where his medical examination confirmed he was assaulted.

The official said after registration of FIR the police arrested the suspect, also belonging to Seror area, during a raid and produced him before a local court, where he confessed to the crime.

Following the incident, the people of Shang area staged a protest and demanded justice for the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, nine people were injured in two separate road accidents in Shang area of Bisham on Monday.

Rescue 1122 officials said a pick-up van coming from Maira to Bisham fell into a gorge in Seror area, injuring five people.

In another accident, four persons were injured when a jeep fell into a ravine in Shang area.

The injured were shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham.

Separately, a house was gutted in Kandai area of Chakesar on Sunday night, killing two buffaloes, two cows and a goat. However, family members remained unhurt.

Locals asked the district administration to provide compensation to the affected family to help rebuild their house.
