KARACHI: One infant was among 23 people who got wounded due to celebratory gunfire carried out in different parts of the metropolis on Chand Raat (moon sighting) on Monday night, police officials said on Thursday.

West-SSP Dr Farrukh Raza said that six people, including one female, were injured due to firing of bullets into the air in various localities of Orangi Town.

The officer said none of the injured suffered life-threatening wound.

Dr Raza said the police had arrested four suspects allegedly involved in firing guns into the air and registered FIRs against them.

Police spokesperson in a statement said that two-year-old girl Farhana Ghani got injured by a stray bullet near Chakar Hotel, New Sabzi Mandi, and was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medical treatment.

A man, Mohammad Imran, 22, was wounded by a stray bullet in Bihar Colony of Lyari. The injured was taken to the CHK.

A 17-year girl, Sidra Hussain, was injured when unknown persons resorted to aerial firing in jubilation at Baldia near Noorani Football ground. The wounded teenager was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

Ayan Ali was injured by a stray bullet in Gulshan-i-Ghazi, according to Ittehad Town police. The injured was taken to the CHK.

A 75-year-old man, Deen Marjan, was injured by a stray bullet at old Haji Camp near Afghan Hotel in Kalakot of Lyari. The injured was shifted to the CHK.

A 20-year-old man, Shahzaib, was injured by a stray bullet at Garden near Makki Masjid. The wounded man was taken to the CHK.

Two people namely Ms Ruksana Latif, 50, and Moosa, 55, were injured due to firing in Sector-8 of Baldia Town near Gulistan-i-Husain School, according to Saeedabad police.

The wounded were shifted to the CHK.

A woman, Perween Gulbaaz, 40, was injured by a stray bullet at Sherpao Colony. The wounded woman was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

A 40-year-old man, Akhtar, was injured by a stray bullet at Napier near Thatta Bus stop.

A man, Imran 38, was injured by stray bullet at Pakistan Chowk, according to the Aram Bagh police.

Samiya Shahid, 26, was injured by a stray bullet at Al-Azam Square near HBL Bank, according to Sharifabad police.

A man, Mujahid Aslam was shot at and wounded in firing carried out in jubilation in Korangi, Sector-26, according to the Awami Colony police. The injured was shifted to the JPMC for treatment.
