RAWALPINDI: During the last two days about 21,095 vehicles entered Murree and 13,788 exited. As many as 7,307 of these vehicles belonged to tourists as the district administration and traffic police had been enforcing a ban on entry of not more than 8,000 vehicles in the hill station during Eid holidays.

City Police Officer (CPO) Omer Saeed Malik along with Chief Traffic Officer Naveed Irshad and Superintendent of Police Haider Ali visited Murree and reviewed arrangements that were made to facilitate tourists.

Mr Irshad said more than 360 traffic police personnel had been deployed to maintain traffic for the convenience of tourists. On the third day of Eid, there were 7,307 vehicles in Murree whereas the hill station has the capacity to park only 3,500.

“In view of the orders of the district administration, entry ban for more than 8,000 vehicles was being enforced by the city traffic police,” said the CTO, adding that all highways of Murree are open for traffic and traffic was normal.

Despite being a two-way and narrow road, there was no traffic problem on any of Murree’s highways, he added and urged drivers to avoid overtaking while driving. A special desk and helpline has also been set up for the convenience of tourists.

More than 410 traffic and tourism police personnel have been performing their duties during Eid in Murree.

As many as 150 personnel of Murree Tourism Police have been making sure that the flow of traffic in the city remains smooth.

Driving licences are also being verified on inbound and outbound routes for safety reasons. Over the past two days, tourism and traffic police have provided guidance and assistance to more than 1,470 tourists.

Tourists can call the Murree Tourism Police helpline on 15 and 1757 or 051-9269200 for help. Tourists had also been advised to keep with them warm clothes, dry food items and drinking water while visiting Murree.
