LOADSHEDDING: Kohat city mayor Qari Sher Zaman has warned Peshawar Electric Supply Company of public protests if it does not do away with excessive loadshedding in Ramazan.

In a message on Wednesday, he said he had met Pesco executive engineer and told him that hours long power outages had created unrest among consumers, but the latter was not mindful of the grave situation.

“I also took up the issue with the deputy commissioner and the divisional commissioner, but they also failed to resolve it. I am aware of the public anxiety, and as being their representative, it is my responsibility to address their issues,” Mr Zaman said.

He threatened that people would take to the streets if electricity loadshedding, especially during Iftar, Sehr and Taraveeh, did not end immediately.

OIL TANKER FALLS INTO RAVINE: An oil tanker fell into a deep ravine while negotiating a sharp turn on the hilly track between Kohat and Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision on Wednesday.

The tanker was bringing 45,000 litres of oil to Kohat from Peshawar. The driver remained unhurt as he jumped out of the vehicle.

Recently, an oil tanker had also veered off the hilly track. Its driver was burnt to death as the tanker caught fire.

The oil tankers’ association has been demanding since 2013 to be permitted to use the Kohat tunnel to avoid frequent accidents on the mountainous track.

Entry of heavy vehicles to the tunnel is banned.
