KARACHI, Dec 2: An inter-school “Hifz-i-Quran and Husn-i-Qirat” competition was held at the Defence Authority Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zaid (SKBZ) College here on Friday.

As many as 15 schools of the city participated in the event. A renowned Islamic scholar, Dr Syed Rizwan Ali Nadvi, was the chief guest at the function who underscored the significance of understanding the Quran and the hadith.

Dr Nadvi said that during his 35 years of association with the Al-Azhar Islamic University, Cairo, he found Pakistanis to be the best students having the real understanding of the Holy Quran.

DHA Director Education Brig Muzaffarul Hasan said that teaching was the noblest of all the professions as all the prophets were in fact teachers.

He said a teacher was not required to merely impart knowledge to his pupils but being a role model himself, he had to build their characters and personality.

Earlier, the principal of the college, Brig Mohammad Ali Jawed, in his inaugural remarks said the Holy Quran was an eternal source of guidance and blessing for the entire mankind.

Earlier, in the contest students of the Army Public School (Saddar) got the overall first position.

The second position was clinched by the Defence Authority Model School (phase IV) while the host Defence Authority SKBZ College got the third position.—APP
