PESHAWAR: Speakers at a literary event asked writers and artists to continue promoting peace, humanism and mutual respect through poetry and music.

The literati gathered here on Sunday to celebrate the advent of the spring season with musical concert and poetry recitation session.

Sublime Bhaitak and Bazm-i-Bahar-i-Adab jointly arranged the event here at a local school in Sinkandarpura. Poets and music buffs attended the function. Noted Urdu writer Prof Nasir Ali Syed was chief guest on the occasion while Prof Arshad Malak moderated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nasir Ali Syed said that Peshwarites always welcomed the spring season with musical and poetical smiles as most often literati after smelling the fragrance of the city flowers, began composing couplets filled with appreciation and goodwill.

Folk singer from Punjab Shakir Esakhelvi, student of noted folk artist Attaullah Esakhelvi, performed and garnered great applause from the audience. He sang some oldies of his mentor Attaullah Esakhelvi but also sang few of his fresh numbers.

Session held in Peshawar to welcome spring season

It was followed by poetry recitation session in which poets from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock participated. They read out poetic pieces welcoming the spring season and also advocated peace and mutual harmony in their couplets.

Akhtar Seemab, chief of Bazm-i-Bahar-i-Adab asked poets and artists to continue promoting peace, humanism and mutual respect through poetry and music. He said that artistic expression had the power to counter terrorism with aid of soft and measured rhythm of words.

Meanwhile, poets and writers organised an event under the banner of Pakistan Academy of Letters and shed light on the significance of greenery for the safe environment.

Noted writer Bushra Farrukh chaired the event while Prof Yar Mohammad Mughmoom was chief guest on the occasion.

Speakers on occasion, they asked the literati to play their due role in raising awareness on tree plantation and safeguarding environment.

Resident director of PAL Khanbadsha Nusrat, Prof Ahmad Ali and Syed Chiragh Hussain Shah also addressed the event.

Later, varieties of saplings were planted at the precincts of PAL Peshawar.

Several local artists released video songs on social media regarding safety of environment by planting saplings to make the country green and clean and reduce the hazards of climate change.

Noted poets and writers have taken to the social media for spreading messages to speed up plantation campaign so that dream of green and clean Pakistan could become a stark reality.
