DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a retired policeman when he was performing security duty with a polio team here on Friday.

Gomal police station officials said the former constable, Khan Bahadar, was on security duty of a polio team in Qayyum Nagar area when the motorcyclists opened fire on him. He was seriously injured and later died in a hospital.

A police contingent rushed to the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area to track down the culprits.

According to police, five empty shells of 9mm pistol were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile, a man was killed and another injured over a woman’s dispute in Darazinda area. A police official said Mohabbat Khan and Naimat Khan opened fire on Abdul Kaleem and his brother Abdul Karim. As a result, Karim died on the spot, while Kaleem remained unhurt. Darazinda police registered a case on the report of the victim’s brother.
