LAHORE: The Lahore police high command has suspended from service Green Town Station House Officer (SHO) Yasir Cheema and a woman police sub-inspector trying to cover up a ceremony on the police station premises.
The action was taken against them three days back on the basis of CCTV footage which went viral on social media showing the SHO and the woman police officer in a room of the police station and other employees covering the CCTV camera with a piece of cloth.
The footage showed the SHO directing the employee to put a piece of cloth on the CCTV camera which was installed by the police authorities in every police station in the city to monitor and supervise the activities of the police.
A police official said SHO Yasir organised his birthday ceremony in his office and invited his friends there.
He said the monitoring room staff at the DIG Operations office observed the actions of the police to cover the CCTV camera and brought the matter to the notice of the senior police authorities.
They issued a notice to both the SHO and the woman police official and during the hearing both failed to explain the gross negligence in this respect.
After an inquiry into the incident, both officials were suspended from service by the DIG, who said the police command had directed other SHOs to strictly follow the standard guidelines and avoid such incidents in future.
