RAWALPINDI: More than 740,000 children under the age of five will be administered polio drops during the five-day polio campaign in the district that begins on Feb 28.

“From April 2021, all environmental samples in Rawalpindi district were negative due to the effective vaccination campaign,” District Health Officer Dr Ihsan Ghani told Dawn.

He said 4,046 polio teams would visit door-to-door and give drops to children below five years in seven tehsils of the district, adding that 307 teams would perform their duties at fixed sites while 147 teams would focus on areas like bus stands, railways stations and so on.

All steps had been taken by the authorities concerned to make the campaign a success, he said. He said the basic aim of the drive was to save the new generation from the crippling disease and urged residents to play their role in eliminating the disease.
